Weight bearing exercises work to keep the fat burning. Building muscle will burn fat 24 hours a day. It is a big boost to your six pack stomach workout. Even if you don’t work your abs that day, the fat burning potential for the entire body including the abs is still there.

But, the workout is only half of the equation. The body is fueled by food. The type of fuel determines how well the body will run.

Knee Lift Shoulder Press

This exercise shouldn’t be with heavy weights at first. Start with five to eight pounds. Stand with your knees shoulder width apart. Arms should be bent at the elbow with the weights at ear height.

Lift your right knee to your weight as you push both arms above you head. Engage the abs to stay balanced as you lift the weights. Knee lifts work the lower abs at the same time that your shoulders are getting some work.

Reverse Lunge Kick

This combination move works the quadriceps, gluteus, and the abs. with weights in hand (five to ten pounds), slowly perform a reverse lunge by placing the left leg behind you in a wide stance and lunging down. As you return to the starting position, perform a front kick with the right leg. Repeat the combination on the left leg. The entire abs area is engaged during the lunge for balance and the lower abs gets extra work on the front kick.
