a>Contrary to popular belief, you can effectively work your abdominal muscles without doing sit-ups or crunches. But before we go any further don’t get me wrong, crunches and sit-ups work wonders for developing tight abs and a flat stomach. But I digress, let’s get back to the topic at hand.
Recent studies suggest that isometric exercises focusing on the upper torso (shoulders mainly) are very effective in tightening the core muscles. One such exercise are shoulder extensions. Shoulder extensions are performed by standing with your back to a wall with both arms at your sides. You then turn one palm and place it on the wall, pushing against the wall. Keep applying pressure on the wall for 10 seconds and release. Repeat with the other hand.
You can also effectively work your abs just about anywhere you guy. Simply make a conscious effort to contract your stomach muscles and keep them contracted for several seconds before relaxing them. By repeating this action throughout the day you will definitely see and feel improvements in your core muscles.
It doesn’t really sound like much does it? But I assure you it works. And you can do it anytime, anywhere. Even when your sitting down watching television or driving your car. Another great way to strengthen your stomach is to make an active effort to have perfect posture. Just the mere act of walking and standing with excellent posture will make the muscles of the core stronger.
